Contemporary dance is a more overtly expressive style of dance that combines elements of many genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers connect the mind and body through fluid movements. Strength and subtlety are key parts of this dance style. Dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down. This dance genre is often done in bare feet.
Improv is unplanned and uncensored movement developed in the now. We will focus on different improv techniques, contemporary partnering, weight sharing counter points and choreographic tools to widen our understanding of performance, time and space. The purpose of this class is to allow more freedom and less judgment for creativity in the body.
